The 3 Ps: A New Look at the People, Power, & Politics of Police Leadership

The twists and turns of the Police Chief Badge mirrors the Careers of police eaders.
No other position in our society is imbued with such power to good… and bad. The twists and turns of the corner office chief’s suite in some jurisdictions are worthy of a soap opera. On the flipside, ethical and dedicated leaders can excel in serving their community.

Whether the law enforcement leader or top echelon below has the moniker of police chief, deputy chief, sheriff, superintendent, commissioner, or the equivalent, the one constant has been the fascination sworn and civilian folks alike have for the men (and increasingly women) who claw their way to the top of the police pile.

I found that the compulsion people have to gawk and gossip about who’s on the way out and who is a rising star crosses many populations. So, the news posts on PoliceChiefInsider.com are for you:

- The rising law enforcement leader checking out the impending openings and learning from the pitfalls.

- The mayor, city or county manager, or council member itiching to see what talent is out there and what others are saying about their own top cop.

- The top or secondary tier leader who is looking over his or her shoulder for threats to their tenuous slot.

- The police, government, and politics reporter who is looking to see how their area’s local celebrity and high profile media target is being portrayed

- The business person who sells products or services to law enforcement agencies and wonders if the connection will be lost and what these purchasing decision makers are thinking.

Importantly, PoliceChiefInsider.com is written for members of the community who have law enforcement in their lives on a daily basis as it is the most visible form of government. It is the police chief, sheriff, and their breathren that set the tone for for sometimes over 30,000 crime fighters. If the items above don’t justofy it, it is is for that very important last reason that we should understand who these influential people are, what they are up to, and how they think.

As we engage in this evolving and dynamic area of the news, please feel free to send us tips. It is only through the light of day can we study, understand, and appreciate the very tough and important task our law enforcement top cops do every day.
